I’m once again thinking I want a truck. But man if you want ANYTHING that isn’t a rusty POS you’ve gotta pay 7-10k. I just want a V8 regular cab.4x4 not required. Biggest problem is they way things are right now I would need to trade in the BMW which means no private party deals. So that makes it even more expensive.
This truck is nice but 8k for a 14 year old Chevy is hard to stomach. Ido like it tho. I’d like it better 2wd tho I want a low boi.

And ones with a manual are going for like $ 5k with 300,000 miles.

Yeah, trux iz xpensiv.
But really though, I’ve been looking at them too, and it’s nuts. Especially if you’re actually looking for one with 4wd. And trying to find one that isn’t already jacked up on some mall-crawler wheels/tires. There’s actually a dealership around here that buys used trucks, adds horrendous wheels and “offroad” tires, and then charges an extra $10k over what the truck is really worth. The bro-dozer culture is alive and well sadly.

Expensive but also strong resale, so it ends up being pretty good anyways, even with higher gas prices trucks hold value.

Yeah, it’s freaking crazy. My truck is 13 years old, has 144k miles , slightly rusty, and I could still sell it for like 1/3 of what I paid for it brand new.

You can find what you want in SoCal, but it might not be that cheap. Nobody buys 4x4 trucks down there, it’s awash in 2wd ones, so finding a 4x4 is difficult and/or expensive.

Not sure, haven’t really been shopping as much recently . You have the title or is there still a lien on it?

I bought a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Short bed regular cab with 179,000 on it in February
for $3000, no rust but every single body panel has a dent or ding in it. when you get sub $5000 that;s what you have
to expect

I feel you. I’m about to give up on “cheap” 4Runners and consider an Outback because of the lack of value in high mileage 4Runners . Won’t be able to get as far off-road, but probably don’t really need to. Just not sure if I’ll be able to stretch out enough in the back of an Outback if I need to camp in the car at a trailhead .

Yup. And that’s why you don’t make minimum payments. I have a 48 months loan on the car, but if I hang on to it I’ll have it paid off in 30ish. I actually wanted at 36 month loan but my credit union didn’t offer one. Which I still think is weird.

You’re doing nothing wrong, super long loans and zero interest make new trucks seem affordable/less expensive than they are. When I was truck shopping recently taking into account the extra term length, interest rate differences, and discounts, monthly payments on a brand new F-150 specced exactly the way I wanted it were within spitting distance (<$ 75) of the 5 year old truck I ended up buying with nearly 100K miles on it. Almost went for it until I got to thinking about how far that extra $ 15,000 will go to buying an acreage.

Less money made on a 36. Profit vs costs of servicing it plus lack of people that actually want 36 month loans.

It’s the truth. I sold my 01 ranger 2wd 3.0v6 5 speed 71k miles to my father in law for $4000. He gave me $4500 because he couldn’t find anything comparable under 7k and felt bad about the deal I gave him . I paid 8 for it just over two years ago.

Yeah. We just don’t have any other financial responsibilities at the time. Now that we have two mortgages there’s no way we could do something like that

Why do you want a truck like that?
Also, did you know the PT Cruiser is classified as a truck?
And they’re cheap!
So... the solution is for you to get a PT Cruiser... preferably with a manual transmission.

I basically want the smallest truck I can get, but also having a V8 would be cool.
Practically speaking I’d mostly use it for hauling 2 bike and wood because I got into wood woodworking as a hobby this summer. I don’t a crew cab and I dont like driving talk vehicles. So a single cab, short box 2wd is what I really want.

PT Cruisers are good at hauling wood!!!
https://oppositelock.kinja.com/another-reason-to-like-the-pt-cruiser-1659498095
And I used my PT to haul THREE bikes at the same time.
And the PT is 2WD as well!!!
So clearly you NEED a PT Cruiser.

I’d imagine trucks like that are super rare in the UK. And what the hell bought a SRT10 Ram in over there. I wonder if Dodge sold them or if it was privately imported
Svend

Private import. Dodge pulled out of Europe a while back and even then they only so ld the likes of the Avenger, Caliber and Nitro at the dealerships.
People want vehic l es tat are different, stand out, show off, etc...

I’d hate to imagine how much a 3500 Dually, with a Cummins would cost. Not the that you could drive it anywhere.

Quite often they are better maintained over non import cars as the parts are more difficult to find here or get hold of here. It’s not impossible, but getting a mechanic than knows your vehicle, ordering of parts takes longer and more expensive than if it was sold at a main dealers.
